MSSN Lagos Wants Sanwo-olu To Name LASU After Late Jakande

The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, Lagos State Area Unit has commiserated with the family of Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande the Lagos State Government and Nigerians on the demise of the first Civilian Governor of Lagos State and former Minister for Works and Housing.

Just as the body also called on the Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-olu to name the state university after the late journalist.

MSSN in a condolence message on Friday by the president/Amir of the body, Nurudeen Yousouf noted that Jakande left an indelible mark in the San of time by being the man that laid the foundation for the modern Lagos through numerous projects and infrastructural face lift.

“He was able to achieve in Lagos State within the 4years and 3 months he served as Executive Governor (1st Oct 1979 – 31st Dec 1983)

“Alhaji Lateef Jakande is indeed a selfless leader who used his leadership position to bring good governance to majority of people of Lagos State with various affordable health, education, housing, water and transportation Infrastructure many of which are still existing till today.

“Notable amongst Alhaji’s numerous intervention and policies in the education sector include the construction of numerous Jakande block across the state primary and secondary schools, the implementation of free education policy, establishment of Lagos State University amongst others.

“It is also worthy to note that Alhaji Jakande introduced Arabic and Islamic Studies into the Lagos state primary and secondary school syllabus which is indeed a pride to behold.

“That Alhaji has lived a fulfilling and highly impactful life is incontestable as his legacies will forever live on.

“We urge the Lagos State Government to immortalised him by renaming the Lagos State University as Lateef Kayode Jakande University,” he said.
