Isaac Herzog has been elected as Israel’s new president.

Herzog is the son of Israel’s 6th president, Chaim Herzog, and former head of the Labor Party, Israel Today reports.

Isaac Herzog will serve as the 11th president of the State of Israel after being selected by a firm majority of the Knesset to fill that ceremonial role.

Isaac Herzog has a long list of achievements to his name, as well. He is currently head of the Jewish Agency and previously was chairman of the Labor Party.

His tenure will begin on July 9, when current President Reuven Rivlin steps down.

Herzog won 87 out of 120 votes in Wednesday’s election in the Knesset plenum. His opponent, social activist and Israel Prize-winning educator Miriam Peretz, received just 27 votes.
