The Network of Reproductive Health Journalists, Nigeria (NRHJN), has harped on the need to take Menstrual Hygiene Management Sensitization to the grassroots.

Speaking at an awareness and sensitization held at the Igoba Community High School, Igoba in Akure North local government Area, the state Co-ordinator of the Network, Alhaja Fatima Muraina said rural dwellers are the most vulnerable due to extreme poverty rate, non accessibility to clean water and adequate sanitation.

This, she said has left many women without management facility.

She said government and all stakeholders should invest more in menstrual hygiene management, saying that it should be incorporated into the reproductive health rights and budgeting money for it to make pads accessible to Nigerian women across board.

She advised the girls and women including all stakeholders in reproduction issues to find alternatives like reusable pads as the disposable ones are out of reach to an average Nigeria due to the dwindling economic situation of the world at large.

In her good will message, the state Chairman of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Mrs Doris Olumoko emphasized on the need to ensure adequate water provision which she described as very essential in menstrual hygiene.

She appealed to philanthropist and well meaning Nigerians to support Nigerian girls with free pads.

The Resource person, Chief Executive officer of Health Solution and Gender violence Center, Dr. Faosat Aragbaye, stressed the need to provide free pads for the girls to bring them out of what she called period poverty when a girl or woman cannot afford menstrual products during menstruation which could resort to unhygienic practices.

Earlier, the school Principal, Dr Grace Ibrahim applauded the organisation for bringing the sensitization to the school and the resource person who enlightened the students on the do’s and dont’s of menstruation.

Representative of ROTDOW, Miss Adeyemi Adedoyin, in her good will message charged the girls to always ensure proper hygiene to avoid any communicable diseases.
