… Commend Gov. Akeredolu, Urge New VC to Reinforce Varsity

The Alumni Association of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, has commended the Ondo State Governor and Visitor to the University, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, for appointing Prof. Olugbenga Ige as the 6th substantive Vice Chancellor of the Institution, expressing the hope that the new Principal Academic and Executive Officer of the University would justify the confidence reposed in him by the Visitor.

The Worldwide President of the Association, Mr. Kunle Adetoba, gave the commendation in a statement, saying, “Mr. Governor must be commended for demonstrating courage and acting within the law of the University to appoint Professor Ige as the 6th substantive Vice Chancellor of our alma mater.

“Let me also congratulate Professor Olugbenga Ige on his well-deserving appointment. As a member of the Council, I am aware of the challenges being faced by the University. This implies that the new VC has a lot to do. He must be courageous to reinforce the system and make it more functional. With the diverse experience and pedigree of the Professor of Palynology and Palaeoecology in university and general administrations, we are confident that he would justify the confidence reposed in him by Mr. Governor.”

While assuring the VC of the cooperation of the alumni body, Adetoba pleaded with Governor Akeredolu to assist the University in terms of funding.

He said, “Funding remains a critical factor to successfully administer a higher institution. While the University must find a way to improve on its internally-generated revenue, the government must also play its roles. I want to, therefore, plead with our Governor to make more funds available to the University such that the relatively-peaceful atmosphere on our campus can be sustained.

He added that the body of alumni, would continue to play its roles, and wished the new VC a successful tenure.
