One-time military administrator of old Ondo state, Rear Admiral Sunday Abiodun Olukoya (rtd), was a man who contributed immensely to the development of Nigeria and truly loved Ondo state and its people, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, former Governor of Ondo state, has said.

Rear Admiral Sunday Abiodun Olukoya (rtd) was military governor of old Ondo state between 1989 and 1992. He died on August 24, 2021.

In a statement by John Paul Akinduro, Special Assistant to Dr Mimiko on Media and Digital Communications, the former Governor said “Olukoya was humble, amiable and responsible in his carriage and character while in office as military administrator”

According to him “Rear Admiral Olukoya was to me more than the former military administrator of old Ondo State, he was more than the amiable gentleman that he was, he was more than the devout Christian, the loving husband and doting father, that I know him to be, he was a true lover of Ondo State who never shied away from seeking her peace and progress”

Mimiko further said “the former military administrator was particularly generous to our government by sacrificing time and efforts to encourage, critique and support our developmental efforts between 2009 and 2017.

“His mantra was let the sun continue to shine on Ondo State. He was appreciative of our pro people initiatives and did not let go of any opportunity to offer words of support and or encouragement.

“The departure of such a resourceful ‘Omoluabi’ cannot but evoke sadness. However, we are consoled by the fact that he left worthy legacies which will hopefully be sustained by his wonderful family. I pray that the good Lord will stand by the family and grant repose to the soul of the deceased”.
