Students of Adeyemi College of Education Ondo have been tasked not to take matters that could be settled on the table to the social media.

The Provost of the College, Dr Samuel Akintunde gave this charge on Tuesday during the maiden media conference for campus journalists and information managers in the institution.

Represented by the Director of Information and Public Relations of the College, Mrs Oluseto Olatuyi, the provost said as student journalists they must be alive to their responsibility and work towards the growth of the institution.

The Provost added that matters that could be amicably settled within the arm bit of the management shouldn’t be posted on Facebook or other social media platforms.

“Social media users won’t solve your problem. Those who will solve it, the management are here and there’s no wisdom taking a matter that can’t be solved on Facebook there.

“We want to appeal to you to use your writing skills to project the College in good light. We are not saying you should not do your job objectively but think before you publish. Think about the repercussions to the community and then yourself.

“You will see that the management didn’t hesitate to approve your request for this event. That is to tell you that we are in support of your initiative and we do hope that you will take to practice what you have gained today,” the provost charged.

Earlier, the Provost was given an award by the office of the Director of Information of the College’s Students’ Union Government, Comrade Eniola Damilare Marvelous (Captain Gold) and assisted by the Coordinator of NUCJ, Olowe Charles (Bleeding Pen).

Also, the Dean Students’ Affairs Unit of the College, Dr (Mrs) Justinah Ogboru urged the students to take advantage of the new media revolution and work towards fighting fake news in the society.
