The Ondo State Government says it will disband the interim team in charge of commercial drivers in the state, if found to be involved in charging above the ticket price.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties, Dr Doyin Odebowale said this while reacting to an SMS message sent to him by The Precision NG on Tuesday afternoon.

A driver by the name Bello had informed The Precision NG that those in charge of collecting ticket from them started charging N500 from Monday as against the official and receipted N300 sanctioned by the Government.

According to him, the interim members told them the additional N200 is for dues.

“They told us they have a caretaker committee backed by the Government which I believe is a Kangaroo arrangement.

“When the union was canceled, we were informed, but to our surprise now this new caretaker committee is unknown to us. We were not carried along about this new development. I think this is not fair. So the N200 dues is for who and who?” he said.

When contacted via SMS to react to the issue, Dr Odebowale responded thus:

“We will send them off the roads and parks if confirmed. We will resist any attempt to exploit the people.”

The Precision NG recalled that the Government took a step to disband the Idajo-led Drivers’ Union in March, 2021.

This was followed by a ratification from the national body of the union while appointing a caretaker committee from the southwest zone to manage the affairs of the union in the state.

Since then, there has been no election of executive members in the State but there have been an interim team coordinating the ticketing system of the drivers.
