A popular butcher in Ikare Akoko in Akoko Northeast of Ondo State known as “Ayepareti” at the weekend lost his life after a torrential rainfall in the ancient town.
A community leader, Ibrahim Kilani who confirmed the incident to The Precision NG disclosed that the downpour only lasted for less than 40 minutes and had rendered many homeless.
According to Kilani, the rain which started after 7pm on Sunday with heavy snow and storm removed over 150 houses.
Areas that were badly affected were Ilepa, Okela and part of Okoja in the town.
It was gathered that the popular butcher lost his life while taking a cover from the rain at a house at Okela when the unfortunate incident happened.
The building reportedly collapsed on him and was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.
Also speaking, Chairman Ikare Akoko Elders Forum, Elder James Oladetohun sympathized with the victims and called on government to come to their aid.
Another resident and the Majeobaje of Ikare, Chief Saliu Okoja said the present high cost of building materials might make it difficult for many victims to renovate their buildings.
One of the victims, Akeem Alabi said that all his belongings were destroyed, adding that his hope of rebuilding his house is very slim without government assistance.
