An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Lagos State, Chief Joe Igbokwe has alleged that members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) were responsible for burning down his Anambra home.

Igbokwe, who is an adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, said this on a Facebook post on Sunday and also uploaded a video of the attack which was captured on CCTV.

He wrote, “IPOB invaded my house in Nnewi about now. I am sure they razed my house giving the jerry cans of petrol I saw being offloaded from their Sienna car via CCTV. To God be the glory. I am still alive.”

A subsequent video posted on his Facebook page showed that several parts of the house were burnt while the windows were shattered.

However, Igbokwe, who has been one of the fiercest critics of detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, has openly engaged in debates with IPOB sympathisers on social media and has been threatened with violence on several occasions.

Reacting, IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, said, “We don’t know anything about the burning of Joe Igbokwe’s house. I have said it several times that we are not unknown gunmen. We have nothing to do with them.

“God with will punish all those who associate us with unknown gunmen and all those who kill and burn people’s houses using our name will die disgraceful death.

“How can we kill or destroy the property of the people we have staked our lives to protect? Does it make any sense? Please, tell them we are not unknown gunmen and we have no business with such people.

“We remain a non-violent organisation. Why should we burn Joe Igbokwe’s house? Is Igbokwe not an Igbo man and our brother?” (Punch)
