FOMWAN: What FG Should Do To Ensure Food Security

The Federation of Muslim Women Association in Nigeria (FOMWAN) has charged the Federal Government to take urgent action to ensure food security for all Nigerians.

This was made known by the Ondo State Amirah of FOMWAN, Alhaja Aminat Abibullahi Akinpelumi at the 11th annual State conference tagged “Ifedore 2021” held at the Alara’s Palace, Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State at the weekend.

She said the FG can achieve food security by strengthening the naira and regulating food prices to make basic necessities of life affordable to the common man.

Alhaja Akinpelumi also tasked government at all levels to establish educational crises response plan that will provide access to millions of children in schools without compromising their security.

She said this is imperative to forestall the massive dropout of students from schools particularly the girls as a result of insecurity.

She also called on the Federal and State Government to make its women economic employment programmes to reach more vulnerable woman by working directly with respectable women organisations like FOMWAN.

Also speaking at the event, National Amirah, FOMWAN, Alhaja Rofiat Idowu Sanni said the association is not only a national one but an international organisation formed in Nigeria by a British woman.

She added that FOMWAN was the first organisation to established an orphanage and a motherless babies home and also appreciated the Imams and the men for their unrelenting efforts to the support of FOMWAN.

The Guest Speaker, Chairman, Ondo State Muslim welfare board, Alhaji Chandy Dhikirullahi Adams represented by the Board Treasurer, Alhaji Adeleke Dada spoke on the theme of the event, “Towards inclusive Development in the post covid era: prospects, challenges and the role of Muslim women in Africa.”

He called on the Muslim Women to use their strategic position as the bedrock of a muslim family to nurture their children towards achieving the societal goals in the post covid era.

He added that Muslim Women should advocate for socio-economic development of the society to ensure that voices of Muslim women are heard and their ideas implemented.

Part of the activities marking this year’s annual conference include; Visitation to chairman Muslim Welfare Board, Ondo State Commissioner of Police, the traditional rulers in Ifedore LG and humanitarian visit to Muslim school in Ifedore communities where materials were distributed to the Muslim Students.
