Isiaka Adekunle Amoo, Professor of Analytical and Environmental Chemistry at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Ondo State, will on Wednesday, November 24 be conferred with the ‘UNIBEN Hero award’.
Prof. Amoo is an alumnus of the University of Benin (UNIBEN).
According to the letter of nomination obtained by The Precision NG, Amoo, who is a council member of Ahmadu University, Zaria, would be conferred with the award alongside notable graduates of UNIBEN, who have contributed to the development of the institution and the society in general.

“A UNIBEN Hero is an alumnus/alumna or a member of staff of the University of Benin who has distinguished himself/herself in his or her profession/vocation in public or private practice, occupied exalted positions in the service of Nigeria or its constituent states or institutions, or in international bodies/organisations, or is associated with a significant breakthrough or achievements to the benefit of mankind, or has represented positively the good image of, motto, vision, and mission of the University of Benin, or has meritoriously served the University/the University Alumni Association, and contributed to the growth and development of the University of Benin.”
The University of Benin – UNIBEN Hero award is the initiative of the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Lilian Salami to honour and celebrate graduates and members of staff who are active or retired.
The event holding at Akin Deko Multipurpose Auditorium, Ugbowo Campus by 11am will feature the fundraising of the N250m Alumni Relations Building.
“After 50 years of existence with over 350,000 graduates, we feel strongly that it is high time the University of Benin had a befitting Alumni Relations Building that will serve as a rallying point for the University’s Alumni,” the letter read.
