The Inspector General of Police, IGP Alkali Baba Usman, has applauded the uncommon spirit and support being received by the Nigeria Police from Oba David Olajide, the Iresi of Osi Kingdom in Akure North local government area of Ondo state.
Alkali who was represented by the Deputy Inspector General, DIG Babatunde Kokumo gave the charge in Abuja during the Grand Finale of the Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC End Of The Year Events and National Award ceremony held on Wednesday December 8th, 2021, held in Abuja, where the monarch and other prominent Nigerians such as Alhaji Aliko Dangote.
Oba Olajide was honoured during ceremony as the Traditional Ruler of the Year (2021) Award by Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC.
The Police Community Relations Committee was established in 1984, by retired Inspector General of Police, IGP, late Sir Etim Inyang to other things, promote police community collaboration, in order to address community security concerns, provide actionable information on crimes and criminalities as well as logistics support for the police. It is non-political, non-religious, non-ethnic and non-profit organization.
The PCRC leadership said, “Your nomination for this Award is predicated on your prompt response in welcoming the newly created police zone 17 headquarters in Akure by donating 2.6 hectares of land and also going ahead to build the first set of administrative structures for the police.
It would also be recalled that the Monarch built and equipped a Divisional Police Headquarters in his community for the town few years ago.
The police committee said, “your act of love will in no small measure deepen police community integration in the zone, for safety and security, which we deeply appreciate His Royal Highness.”
IGP Alkali therefore challenged other traditional rulers, well-meaning community leaders and Nigerians to emulate outstanding gesture of Oba Olajide, describing the Award by PCRC as a well-deserved.
The IGP said monarchs and community leaders like Oba Olajide were not common in assisting the nation to achieve set security goals and invest hugely on Nigeria police infrastructure.
Responding, Oba David Olajide who expressed delight for the honour done him, said he believes that men of the Nigeria police deserve conducive environment to discharge their duties of protecting lives and property effectively.
The Iresi of Osi, appealed to government at all levels to invest more in Nigeria Police to enable them tackle the current security challenges alongside other security agencies.
The Monarch promised not to relent in assisting the Police especially in the area of providing facilities in his community.
Oba Olajide equally pleaded with the Ondo state government to complement his community’s efforts by constructing roads linking the town with Akure Airport road and Ado-Akure highway.
Osi community plays host to many estate projects and companies including Ondo NUJ Pen Estate.
