Two ex students of Mass Communication at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo (RUGIPO), Ado Adeboye Philip and Afolabi Kayode Olumide have been conferred with a merit award by the RUGIPO’s Nigeria Union of Campus Journalist (NUCJ).
Ado Adeboye Philip was honoured with an award of Most supportive press instructor of the year while Afolabi Kayode Olumide with an award of service to humanity in News gathering and dissemination.
The duo were honoured on Friday at RUGIPO Press Council week celebrations and handover ceremony with a public lecture delivered by the General Manager of Breez 91.9 FM, Akure, Bashorun Banjo Abitogun (BBA) and his Crest 106.1 FM counterpart, Mr Adeolu Gboyega on the theme: “Integration of Mass Media for Higher Institutions and National Development”.
Presenting the award separately, the Dean of Student Affairs in the institution, Dr. Henry Olu-Braimoh described Ado Adeboye Philip as a vibrant journalist, adding that he personally enjoyed him through his online media platform (Veracity News Online), while the Head of News and Current Affairs, Rugipo FM, Mr Adeola Adekoya described Afolabi Kayode Olumide as a journalist per excellence, stressing that the entire Mass Communication department is proud of them.
The duo however thanked the organizers of the event for counting them worthy, stressing that the award will spur them to do more.
