Akinyelure’s Bill On NIEPA Passes Second Reading

It was another milestone achievement on Tuesday at the floor of the Senate as a bill for an act to establish National Institute For Educational Planning And Administration (NIEPA), Ondo and For Other Matters Connected Therewith, 2022 was passed for second reading.

Akinyelure told his colleagues that the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), Ondo, was established in 1992 by the Federal Ministry of Education in collaboration with United Nations Education Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)/International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP) as a Staff College for Planners and Managers in the Nigeria education sector and West Africa sub-regions.

Rolling out the fundamental objectives of the Bill, which Akinyelure listed to provide innovative planning and management strategies for nation’s education sector, develop and monitor criteria for improving educational policies and practices in the country’s educational system, promote a culture of evidence that would guide continuous improvement in educational service delivery at all levels of education, provide systematic training for efficient application of planning and management strategies for educational personnel in target areas of need from time to time and disseminate information, including the use of ICT to enhance efficiency and productivity in meeting emerging challenges in the nation’s educational system, among others.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the Bill passed second reading, Akinyelure, who is equally the Senate Committee Chairman on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions said it was unbelievable that the institution had been operating without any legislative backing since its establishment in 1992.
