Dr Olusegun Mimiko, former governor of Ondo state, has urged the newly sworn-in executive of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Ondo state to uphold professional ethics and standard.

Mimiko, in a congratulatory message by John Paul Akinduro, his Special Assistant on Media and Digital Communications, said “the Nigerian media as the fourth estate of the realm has a responsibility to hold our leaders and institutions accountable”.

Mimiko, who congratulated Ondo NUJ for a hitch-free election and seamless transition, said the new officers are coming at a critical time in the nation’s history and must be truthful, fair and accurate in their daily reportage.

According to him, “I urge you to shun yellow journalism and fake news but share knowledge that adequately informs the people so as to spark healthy debate, especially as the 2023 general elections draw near”

The new excos is led by Prince Leke Adegbite of Radio Nigeria in Akure.
