No fewer than Three people have been killed and 15 injured in a mass shooting in US city of Philadelphia on Saturday night after a gunman opened fire in an area popular with weekend revelers.
Two of the victims have been identified as a 25-year-old woman and 22-year-old man.
The suspect is among those who were injured and is being treated at a local hospital for a non-life threatening injury.
A police source told ABC Philadelphia that when officers arrived at the scene just before midnight, they encountered a male suspect who was firing into a crowd.
An officer shot three times at the suspect. No officers were injured in the shooting.
Prior to this shooting, were nine separate shootings in the city between Friday night and Saturday. No arrests have been made in any of those incidents, reports CBS Philadelphia.
In a tweet, Inquirer reporter Max Marin called the area ‘a popular weekend strip.’ Marin later tweeted evidence of ‘pandemonium stretching several blocks’, pointing to broken car windows and knocked over trash cans.
Not all of those who were injured were shot, reports the Inquirer. One of those people being treated in a local hospital is considered a suspect in the shooting. He was shot in the forearm, it’s not clear if he was shot by a police officer.
