Beijing, the capital of China on Monday reported over 400 new daily coronavirus cases, a record for China’s capital.

- China reported record numbers of COVID-19 cases in Beijing, as well as two manufacturing hub cities
- The elevated numbers come as authorities attempt to loosen some of the restrictive COVID policies that Chinese citizens have been subjected to
- Several months ago, Shanghai shut down for a period of weeks as COVID cases reportedly surged in the metropolitan city
- The shutdown led to stunted quarterly growth in China, as well as citizen protests over the restrictive precautions placed on the population
