OAUSTECH Partners AFRIGIST To Deliver World-class GIS Education

Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Ondo State, Nigeria has partnered with the African Regional Institute for Geospatial Information Science and Technology (AFRIGIST), Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria to deliver world-class education in coastal geospatial information science (GIS) to candidates from West and Central Africa.

OAUSTECH, established by Ondo State Government in 2008, and AFRIGIST, formerly known as Regional Centre for Training in Aerospace Surveys (RECTAS), which was established in 1972 as an organ of the United Nations, consolidated the partnership as the two institutions signed a memerandum of understanding (MoU) on 6 December, 2022.

The MoU is to jointly run Master of Science (MSc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes in Geospatial Information Science (GIS) and Coastal Environmental Management (CEM) with effect from 2023/2024 academic session.

According to the MoU, the two institutions will cooperate in the areas of teaching and research to be jointly agree upon. They are equally to conduct joint research and educational activities at graduate and post-graduate levels in addition to developing, organizing and delivering of non-degree programmes.

The cooperation will also cover exchange of academic and research staff, exchange of research and scientific information and exchange of invitations of staff to participate in lectures, conferences and symposia between the two institutions.
