Former member of the house of representatives, Mr Ade Adeogun has donated a modern, fully equipped motor park to the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) at Oka-Akoko, Akoko Southwest local government area of Ondo state.

While commissioning and handing over the facility to the NURTW on Friday, Adéògún said the project was put together because of his interest in the welfare and development of his constituents, as well as a means to give them a sense of belonging.

He said the need for orderliness and zeal to make life meaningful for the people through giving back made him to embark on the project and others, which include Oka motor park, with an office blocks, canteen, public toilets, paved floor and covered car park covering about six (6) hectares of land, the Police Staff quarters at Oka Police Station, a Culvert at Ikanmu, and a Department of State services (DSS) Local Government office and Staff quarters at Akungba Akoko.

He called on those who will be managing the motor park at Oka Akoko to give room for other businesses to thrive in the park without rancour.

“I want urge the leadership of the drivers Union to allow people from different origins to do business here, so they can boost the economy of Oka township,” he said.

Asked why he has continued serving his people despite leaving office, he said;

“I want to let people know that service is not about tenure of office, it’s a way of life. Part of my mission in politics is to be a role model to aspiring young politicians, and my approach to that is to set examples. If you want to serve you must make it your way of life. You must be ready to serve with your personal resources, your energy, and with your time. Weather you hold a political office or you don’t hold one, service is service.”

The Olubaka of Oka Akoko, Oba Adebori Adeleye described Adé Adéògún as a worthy and uncommon representative of his people.

“He is a worthy and uncommon representative of his people. We thank him for all the developmental strides he undertook in the whole of Akoko Southwest and southeast. He started this motor park project despite the fact that he was not on the ballot in the last general election. Many will have pocketed the money, but he showed uncommon love for his people and respect for his social contract with us, by starting and completing this project, he has done exceedingly well. We will have appreciated that Adeogun is re-elected to office, but God understands why he didn’t return.”

He urged residents of the community to guard jealousy and make use of the facilities provided by the lawmaker.

The vice chairman of the Oǹdó state park management committee, Mr. Festus Obasooto, who represented the chairman, Mr. Adebo Jacob, Popularly known as Idajo, lauded the lawmaker and expressed appreciation while calling on other well meaning individuals to emulate him.

“We don’t have anything to say than to appreciate Honourable Adeogun for presenting this edifice to us today. It is on record that this is the first of it kind in Oka town and the entire state.”

The event was attended by traditional rullers, among others in Àkókó South-East and Akoko South-West.

Meanwhile, the ongoing 1,500 capacity civic center at Oba Akoko, which is 90% completed was also inspected.

The former lawmaker, who completed his four years tenure in June had on the 26th of same month distributed 26 motorcycles to people who were selected from each of the 26 wards in the Akoko South West and Akoko South East local governments. He also gave seven buses to seven different cooperative societies in the constituency.
