The Senator representing Ondo Central Senatorial district, Adeniyi Adegbonmire, SAN says a review of election timetable that will ensure all litigations arising from elections are concluded before swearing-in, is necessary.
Adegbonmire advocated this interacting with some Journalists in Akure, the Ondo State capital at the weekend.
He said an abriged timetable would curb increase in the number of States where off season elections are being conducted in the country.
Senator Adegbonmire said though off-season election has come to stay in some States, efforts should made to disallow it from extending to more States by reviewing the election timetable.
“It is democratic for anyone who is not satisfied with outcome of any election to approach the court for redress, the system should make provision for all the cases to be dispensed with by adjusting the election timetable before swearing-in. This invariably will put an end to the issue of off-cycle election in Nigeria. We have started working on that at the Senate.”
On the rehabilitation of Ore-Ondo-Akure roads, the legal practitioner disclosed that the road is due for dualization, adding that he would fight for its actualization.
Meanwhile, Adegbonmire, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Agriculture Colleges and Institutions had sought the cooperation of Journalists in the State.
While noting that the people of the State rely so much on them, he charged them to always be factual and objective in their reportage.
“You are all our friends, as we move into the electioneering period, I want to urge all to put the interest of the State first. The peacefulness of Ondo State is our responsibility,” Adegbonmire added.
