A rejuvenated Super Eagles of Nigeria on Saturday night defeated the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the round of 16 clash to advance to quarter-finals of the on-going 2023 AFCON holding in Cote d’Ivoire.

The scoreline was 2 goals in favor of the Nigerian team.

Ademola Lookman’s brace on both halves of the tension-soaked match gave the high-flying Super Eagles two goals during the encounter at the Houphoet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan.

The enterprising Eagles went on the offensive from the blast of the whistle, with Semi Ajayi finding the back of Cameroonian net early on but it was ruled out for offside after a VAR check.

Lookman eventually opened scores in the 36th minute off a Victor Osimhen assist.

Worry set in for Nigeria when goalie Stanley Nwabali was injured in the 76th minute and replaced by number two Francis Uzoho.

However, Lookman struck again on the dot of 90 minutes off a Calvin Bassey cut-back to make victory certain.

Nigeria will face Angola in the quarter-finals on Friday.
