The Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Afolabi on Tuesday in company of other officers were at Sunday camp to conduct an on-the-spot assessment, after the community came under heavy attack by armed herders at the weekend.
The camp is a boundary community between Ondo and Edo States.
CSP. Funmilayo Odunlami, Police Public Relations Officer in the state in a press release signed on behalf of the Commissioner, disclosed that the movement to the camp was only accessible through Edo.
“It was stalled on arrival at Utese in Edo State as the community members of Sunday Camp who met the Police at the boundary said the camp was accessible only by motorcycles; a journey estimated to take approximately five hours.
“The CP addressed the assembled community members at the border town and proceeded to Emiloju Medical Centre in Okada, Edo state.
“At the hospital, a survivor recuperating from a bullet wound, who was on admission, alongside his brother provided insights into what happened
“Given the complexity of the case, the CP has tasked the Homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department to handle the case.
“The CP urge members of the public to promptly inform the Police of incidents as they occur and verify reports before dissemination to avoid causing panic in the state,” the statement noted.
