Residents in Benin city have appealed to the Edo state government and concerned authorities to intervene in the rising cost of transportation within the state.
Precision Journos gathered that commuters in Benin metropolis who cried out about the hike regretted that drivers always utilise any opportunity at their disposal such as festive period and even environmental factors such as rain to hike transport fares.
Reacting to these complaints, some of the drivers attributed the hike in transport to high cost of diesel as well as high tax levied on them by touts popularly known as “Agbero”.
Recall that the Governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki banned illegal collection of taxes in his new year felicitation message to the people of the state.
