The University of Medical sciences, Ondo, UNIMED, is working hard to become the first university in Nigeria that will be offering courses in Herbal medicine as from next academic session.
According to the vice chancellor of the institution, Professor Friday Okonofua, the university has also been positioned for the treatment of breast Cancer and other forms of life threatening diseases.
At an interactive session with newsmen in Ondo, Professor Okonofua said a special and scientifically based curriculum would be designed for the herbal medicine, so that people would not mistake the course for local herbalists’ package.
The vice chancellor who noted that the future of Africa was on herbal drugs, disclosed that the UNIMED would establish a farm where herbal plants could be generated.
Professor Okonofua who commended the state government’s commitment to the school, adding that UNIMED had enough well-trained and seasoned lecturers to offer both academic and practical trainings in medical related courses.
He said the university would also commence Pharmacy and expand other medical related courses.
