The Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, (OSOPADEC), Olugbenga Edema has made a passionate appeal for the establishment of a competent Court of jurisdiction in the riverine areas of the State for easy access to justice.
Mr Edema made the appeal on Monday, 26th March, 2018 in Akure while speaking at a seminar organized by the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), in collaboration with Mac-Arthur Foundation.
It was a training for lawyers on effective implementation of the Ondo State Administration of Criminal Justice Law, (ACJA) 2015.
“If we must create access to quick dispensation of justice, the Court of competent jurisdiction must be closer to the people. We’re grateful for the establishment of magistrate Courts at Igbekebo in Ese-Odo and Igbokoda in Ilaje Local Government Areas.
“If we must comply with the provisions of the new Ondo State Administration of Criminal Justice Law 2015, there should be access to a Court of competent jurisdiction for people living in the riverine communities for easy access “, he said.
The Seminar tagged ” Effective Implementation Of Ondo State Administration Of Criminal Justice Law” was declared open by the Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN represented by the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Mr. Adekola Olawoye.
The Chairperson of Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA in Ondo State, Mrs Bunmi Niyi Arajuwa said the seminar was necessary since the State has adopted the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 since 2016.
