Akure Chief Imam Urges Nigerians To Unite Against Killings | The Precision

The Chief Imam of Akure Kingdom, Alhaji Abdulhakeem Yayi-Akorede, has advised both Muslims and Christians in the country to unite in praying God to expose those perpetrating senseless killings in parts of the country.

The Cleric however cautioned the followers of the two religions to stop apportioning blames over killings in the country, noting that Islam had lost more members to suspected herdsmen’s attacks and killings than any other religion.

Alhaji Yayi-Akorede stated this during a special Jumat prayer at Akure Central Mosque to mark the Press Week of the Ondo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ.

He enjoined Muslims and Christians to embark on fervent prayers as only means to overcome the current killings rather than engaging in utterances or acts that could further breach the nation’s security.

The cleric, insisted that it was not only the Christians that have been the victims of current killings in the country as the thousands of Muslims have lost their lives to dastard act of killers in the country.

He said, “a lot of mosques during prayer have been bombed and lives of Muslims were lost. Islam is a religion of peace and Muslims are peaceful, we should not  be taken for a fool”.

“Christians and  Muslims should join hands together to pray for the sustainability of the peaceful coexistence in the country and on how to get ride of killings through prayer”.

Alhaji Yayi-Akorede, admonished that no religion should view the killings from religious perspective.

He, however, prayed God to expose those behind the dastardly act of killing and admonished Muslims to always pray for peace in the country.

The cleric, used the occasion to pray for the men of pen profession in the state and urged them to always display act of professionalism and desist from what can jeopardise the peace in the country by reporting happenings objectively.

The Akure Chief Imam charged them to be fair in the discharge of their duty and not mislead public in their reportage.

Also speaking, the Ondo State Chairman of NUJ, Mr. James Sowole, appreciated God for giving journalists opportunities to witness the annual event of the pen profession in the state and promised responsible reportage of security situation in the country.

Sowole accompanied by some members, urged religious leaders to always use their sermons to promote peace and educate their followers on best ways of ensuring peaceful coexistence among Muslims and Christians in the country.
