Strengthening The PHC: Ondo Govt Trains Laboratory Scientists | The Precision

As part of efforts to strengthen Primary Healthcare sector in the state, the Ondo State government has embarked on training of Laboratory Scientists at the PHCs across the 18 LGAs in the state.

 

While flagging off the training at Igbara oke, Ifedore Local Government Area, the  Commissioner for Health, Dr. Wahab Adegbenro said to strengthen the Primary healthcare sector, strengthening diagnosis us key.
Dr. Adegbenro recalled that the state government recently distributed multi-million naira worth of medical and laboratory equipment to primary health care centres in the state.
To effectively use these these equipment, it has become a necessity to impact skills that will be necessary for accuracy in diagnosis which will help clinicians.
The Health Commissioner who said the training will be at different levels and locations, charged participants to listen attentively and acquire skills that will make them  more functional.
He tasked them to use with utmost care the equipment distributed to their centers as it has cost the government so much.

Dr. Adegbenro enjoined them to reciprocate the good gesture of the  government by being at their duty post and taking their jobs seriously.
He said monitoring teams will be going rounds and anyone not found  at His/duty post with be shown the way out.
In his address of welcome, the Executive Secretary Primary Healthcare Development Board, Dr. Francis Akanbiemu said the importance of a functional Lab.to qualitative healthcare delivery can not be overemphasized as there cannot be effective treatment without  proper diagnosis.
Talking of strengthening the Primary healthcare centres, Dr. Akanbiemu said parameters such as infrastructure, equipment and the quality of personnel are key.
He said  equipments have been provided, manpower is being trained and renovation of laboratories across the 18 LGAs will  soon begin.

The Primary Healthcare Board helmsman added that as part of the holistic approach to revitalising the Primary healthcare sector, mothers will also be trained and this will continue until Primary Healthcare centres become the delight of the  people that is much sought after.
In an interview, the Chairman Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists, Comrade Olumide Elusoji who appreciated the government for the supply of medical and laboratory equipment , training of Lab Scientists which he said  its a  big plus to the government and it unprecedented.
Comrade Elusoji then implored the government to train and retrain as well as employ qualified hands so that their desire for the state can be achieved.
Some Participants interviewed are: Mrs Ajibola Omowunmi, Mrs. Kemi Faleye and Mr Wole Adenuga.
They appreciated the good gesture of the Ondo State governor which they see as a right step in the right direction.
