The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Youth Council (EYC) has conferred on the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), Professor Lilian Imuetinyan Salami, The Distinguished African Female Personality of the Year Award.

The honor was presented on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the Youth Council to the Institute’s corporate headquarters in Ondo, Ondo State.

President of the council, Ambassador Seun Williams, while presenting the award to her, commended Professor Salami for her interventions in creating awareness for educational development, youth capacity building and girl education and her humanitarian assistances. Mr. Williams, who was represented by the Vice president of the council, Mr. Epah Pablo, said the council had its search light across Africa and recognized those who did exceptionally well in supporting the society especially the African youths.

“We are commending Professor Salami for using her position in government to make the world a better place and giving succor to vast majority of people in different capacities and in different spheres. She could, like some others, chose to live outside the country and not help the continent, but she chose to help the people especially youths in our abiding quest for unity, peace, prosperity, mutual respect and peaceful co-existence.

Responding, Professor Lilian Salami thanked the EYC for finding her worthy of the investiture and charged them to always imbibe the culture of hard work and diligence because there are no shortcuts to success.

“Associations of this nature actually brings joy to my heart because it is a reminder that all hope is not lost. We can sleep with our two eyes closed knowing we have people who can remain strong, and keep the flag of the African continent flying” she said.
