Breaking: Court Hears Contempt Suit Against Ondo Speaker, Three Others

The high court sitting in Akure, the Ondo state capital is today Thursday, December 17 hearing the suit of contempt suit brought against the speaker of the Ondo state House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Bamidele Oleyelogun and some principal officers of the assembly.

The other officers are the Clerk, Parliamentary Secretary and Deputy-majority leader.

The speaker and other officers are present for the court proceedings.

The Precision NG reports that the court had on December 9, 2020, served the officers form 49 – contempt of court committal.

The court had earlier served them form 48 on November 26, 2020, to warn them of the implication of not obeying the court judgment on the reinstatement of some of its members that were suspended.

The four members namely, Iroju Ogundeji, Tomide Akinribido, Adewale Williams and Favour Tomomewo were suspended by the house for what it described as gross misconduct and impunity.

However, the House of Assembly on Monday, December 14, 2020, lifted the suspension of the four members in obedience to the court order.

Speaking at plenary on Monday, Speaker of the House, Rt Hon. Bamidele Oleyelogun noted that the members, were suspended in line with the provisions of the rules and standing orders of the House at parliamentary and ratified at plenary.
