Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka, says he preferred to ignore the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari for his sanity.
Soyinka disclosed this in an exclusive interview with KAFTAN TV’s Pleasure Enwereji while appraising the Lagos-Ibadan rail project.
“I don’t want to talk on President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration at all,” he said.
“I think it is best for my sanity just to avoid that overall question. I can take bits and pieces of Nigeria’s present predicament. But I think for one’s sense of balance, one should just forget the existence of the Buhari administration.”
Soyinka supported Buhari’s election in 2015 but turned against him before the polls in 2019 after he repeatedly accused the president of poor performance and maladministration.
He has since turned into a stern critic, expressing displeasure for the current government at the slightest instance.
The 86-year-old playwright in June said he doesn’t think “there’s anybody in-charge at Aso Rock”.
Soyinka however admitted satisfaction with the Lagos-Ibadan rail project.
“It’s a work-in-progress but a very impressive work-in-progress considering the difficulty of really executing anything in this country.
“We are looking at a virtual transport revolution, long-overdue in this nation.”
