Oniwon who is now a lecturer at the Kogi State University disclosed this at the 15th matriculation ceremony of Achievers University held on Friday, February 11 at the Trinity hall.

The 35-year-old Kogi-born scholar who was the guest lecturer at the matriculation ceremony recalled how he finished with a CGPA of 1.20 at a federal university and was condemned by all his associates.

He said he was determined to pursue his dream of getting a good grade and decided to return to the university as a fresh undergraduate.

According to Oniwon, Achievers University accepted him and was glad he graduated with good grades.

“When you look around – the halls, classrooms, hostels, laboratories, facilities and human resources – they all prepared, equipped and molded me in ways I never imagined when I came in like you nine years ago. If you had told me then that I would graduate top in my class, be counted among the best graduating students in the school, win the Leadership Award for my set and give this very lecture, I would probably have laughed, because I was unaware of the height of greatness within me! If I could, you can!

“Permit me to congratulate you on your admission into this prestigious school, Achievers University, which is gradually evolving to be the best in Africa! You really deserve it. Maintain the same attitude of faith in God, hard work, consistency, courage and confidence as you face the challenges of campus life. You all have made your entire family proud,” Oniwon said

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor (VC), Prof. Samuel Aje admonished the new intakes on the need to study hard in order to get the best grades.

He reminded them of the University’s core values which are knowledge, integrity and leadership and urged them to imbibe them.

The VC later admitted the new students into the different colleges available in the institution.

The guest at the event and a son of Owo, Dr Dapo Adelegan, harped on the need for the students to get acquianted with entrepreneurial skills, as it would help them in the future.

The Founder and Pro-Chancellor of the institution, Dr Bode Ayorinde announced that an Entrepreneurship center, courtesy Dr Adelegan would soon be constructed in the University.

Dr Ayorinde who warned the students not to engage in cultism, drug abuse and examination malpractices, urged them to dedicate a minimum of two hours for reading.

While advising them not to suffer in silence, as the University would protect their interest any day, Dr Ayorinde enjoined them to report any form of harassment to the management.

Highlight of the ceremony was the celebration of students in the University currently on first class grades and are fondly referred to as ‘Achievers Scholars’.
