The old Ijare-Ikere road has been reopened for vehicular movements.
The historic reopening, which took place last week, was credited to the efforts of indigenes of Ijare town in Ifedore local government area of Ondo State and staff of the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere, Ekiti State (BOUESTI).
Giving a rundown of the intervention and expenses was a representative of the Ijare community, Dr Sunday Olojuolawe.
Dr Olojuolawe in the terse message obtained by Precision Online Newspaper, appreciated the support given towards the opening up of the Ijare-Ikere road for vehicular movement.
The statement commended the staff of BOUESTI, who initiated and started the project.
“The Chairman of Ifedore LGA, (Engr. Alex Oladimeji) and our own Egbon, Mr. Ayodele Pius under the aeges of Dortmund Company are all appreciated.
“Although the road may not be perfectly smoothened, as expected, it is at least manageable. This was evident with the number of vehicles that passed through the road yesterday.
“We have further called for the intervention of Ikere people through the Ogoga in Council and the L.G Chairmen in the town. The few rough sections are at the Ikere end of the road,” the statement added.
According to the breakdown of the project expenditure, the BOUESTI staff started the project and they spent Three Hundred and Thirty-Three Thousand Six Hundred Naira (N333,600.00) only before the intervention by the Ijare sons and daughters.
“Similarly, 106 people contributed and added value to the project in Ijare with a total income of Two Million, Five Hundred and Seven Thousand Naira (N2,507,000.00) only. A total of Two Million, Three Hundred And Fifteen Thousand, Nine Hundred Naira (N2,315,900.00) only was spent on the road from this purse. This left us with a balance of One Hundred and Ninety-One Thousand, Nine Hundred Naira (N191,900.00) Only,” Dr Olojuolawe noted.
