The Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board, ODSUBEB, has welcomed the State victorious Team at the just concluded South West Regional Basic Education Schools Sports, (BESS) Competition in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State.
It was a moment of celebration for the management and staff of the agency as the State Team came first beating Ogun and Osun States to the Second and Third positions respectively, in a keenly contested regional sports fiesta.
The Ondo State team won 6 Gold, 5 Silver and 3 Bronze Medals pooling a total of 14 Medals.
To come second, Ogun State garnered 5 Gold, while Osun that came third harvested 4 Gold, 3 Silver and 4 Bronze pooling a total of 11 Medals.
In appreciation for this historic feat, the Executive Chairman of the Board, Rt Hon Victor Olabimtan, Full Time member -2 of the Board Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye and The State Chairman of Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT, Comrade Victor Amoko gifted the team and their handlers Four Hundred Thousand Naira
Breakdown shows that the Chairman and FTM-2 gifted the team One Hundred and Fifty Thousand naira each and the balance of One Hundred Thousand Naira was gifted by Comrade Amoko.
Speaking at the reception for the team at the Board Corporate Headquarters in Akure, Olabimtan said the cash award is just one of the many things the Government will do to show that it appreciate the team for making the State very proud.
The Chairman who congratulated the team and their handlers for a job well done under scored the needs for continuos training and redoubling of efforts before the grand finale of the BESS competition coming up in Abuja this year.
He promised to book an appointment to formally present the victorious team and their handlers to Ondo State Governor Hon Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa and the State.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Board Chief Akinbamidele Akinnagbe commended the State Government through the Board for coming to the aid of the Board especially in releasing the UBEC matching grants since 2017 as at and when due.
In his goodwill Message, the State Chairman NUT, Comrade Amoko and the Director Social Mobilization Julius Adebayo Commended the Board for the support to the team and the parents for releasing their children to attend the competition considering the prevailing insecurity situation in the country.
The high point of the event was the official presentation of the overall trophy the team won to the Chairman Olabimtan who promised to present same to Mr Governor at a later day.
