Government and Educational Institutions Should Improve Access to Quality Education For Vulnerable Populations- Oba Abolarin

    Government and educational institutions have been charged to prioritize community engagement and partnership to improve access to quality education for vulnerable populations.

    The guest speaker at the 14th Convocation Lecture of Achievers University Owo, HRH Oba Adedokun Abolarin Orangun of Oke-Ila Osun State, made this suggestion while delivering his lecture titled “Modelling Quality Education for the reach of the Vulnerable”

    The monarch urged government at all levels to increase investment in education by allocating more resources, pay more attention to focused services to vulnerable populations, improve infrastructure and teacher quality.

    He however called on educational institutions to also prioritize character development and social responsibility to foster a culture of compassionate and visionary leader.

    ” Universities, importantly, have a moral and pragmatic responsibility to bridge the educational divide for vulnerable populations. Through research, partnerships, capacity building, and advocacy, they can drive systematic change, ensuring that education becomes not just a privilege but a universal right. Achieving this vision requires collective action among institutions, government, educators, and communities. By adopting innovative models and equity-focused strategies, universities can pave the way for an inclusive and transformative education system that empowers all learners, especially the most vulnerable.”

    The monarch noted that to achieve quality education a unifed effort involving governments, educational institutions, especially Universities, international organizations, private sector actors, and local communities is essential adding that “by addressing systematic barriers and leveraging innovative approaches, the global vision of equitable and quality education can be realized for even the most vulnerable populations”.

    On his impact to access to quality education for the vulnerable, Oba Adedokun Abolarin said he established Abolarin College, Oke-Ila Orangun, which serve as a model for providing quality education to vulnerable populations.

    “Abolarin College was founded on the principles of providing quality education to the people of Oke-Ila Orangun, its environs and other children from other geopolitical regions in Nigeria. The college that is tuition, boarding, Uniform, feeding, all resources provided including examination fees provided free for all students irrespective of who and where they come from”.

    In his remarks, the Pro Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Hon.(Dr.) Bode Ayorinde said Achievers University in its magnanimity to help the vulnerable has made 12 programmes of the University 100% tuition free.
