It was one of his fierce critics, Prof. Farooq Kperogi who on Wednesday brought the attention of Nigerians to the fact that President Muhammadu Buhari, had twice inaugurated a committee that would lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty.

To back up his assertion, Prof. Kperogi posted two screenshots from the first and second events on his Facebook profile, to the surprise of many Nigerians who are on the blue app.

A further check by The Precision NG, revealed that indeed President Buhari inaugurated the committee twice.

First it was on September 10, 2020, that the President performed the inauguration of the steering committee, that, according to him would ensure the reduction of poverty in the country, with the target of lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in 10 years.

First event captured by Channels TV and available on its YouTube channel.

However, yesterday Tuesday, June 22, 2021, the President announced the inauguration of a steering committee, again with the commitment to lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in ten years, with a well-researched framework for implementation and funding.

Second event held on Tuesday June 22, 2021.

“If India can lift 271million people out of poverty between 2006 and 2016, Nigeria can surely lift 100million out of poverty in 10 years,” Buhari said at the event on Tuesday.

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo is to chair the committee.

It is not clear why the committee had to be inaugurated again after the initial event at the State House in Abuja last year.

The official press statement released after the Tuesday’s event signed by Buhari’s spokesperson, Femi Adesina never made mention of the reason for such development as well.

Mr Buhari has consistently come under heavy criticism for pursing policies that have no far-reaching effect on the masses.

Some have criticised him of not being in charge of the government, accusing him of having dementia. An allegation, former Presidential spokesperson, Dr Reuben Abati, said is untrue, after his recent interview with him at the State House in Abuja.
