Supare Akoko/Farmers Crisis: Decision Of Adeogun-Led Committee Will Be Accepted By Us – Warring Blocs Pledge

The two blocs in the crisis between Supare Akoko community on Ondo state and Farmers have promised to accept any decision made by the fact-finding committee led by Hon. Ade Adeogun.

This was revealed in a Public Hearing organized by the committee in Akure, the state capital on Wednesday.

The crisis between the farmers and their hosting community, Supare Akoko, began when the community requested to use its land for a Benin-Owena River basin project.

The state government intervened by setting up a fact finding committee led by the member representing Akoko South East/South West Federal Constituency at the green chamber, Ade Adeogun.

Speaking with journalists at the event, the Youth Leader of Supare Akoko, Olanrewaju Obanoba said the people of Supare Akoko want peace, and that they have no reason, not to accept the decision of the committee.

“By the grace of God, everybody believe in peace, just that one side is not trying to get the other side. We believe that the committee will try their best.

“We want peace because peace is the only way we can get development. We will accept the decision of the committee.” He concluded.

In the same vein, the Farmers promised to support the committee do their job, adding that they trust in the integrity of the committee chairman.

The Chairman of the committee, Ade Adeogun however noted that he is Impressed with the responses of the warring Blocs.

“Yes, I’m impressed. There was decorum to some extent. The body language of all the stakeholders showed that they want peace.

“I believe we’ve taken the major steps. The next thing we are going to do is to sit with stakeholders from Supare and the farmers to make a decision that will be acceptable to both parties.

“We plan to submit our report on or before next week Wednesday. We must live together so, we must pass the message to our people that peace is needed.”

A member of the committee and a former Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Alhaji Ali Olanusi encouraged the two parties to allow peace in a bid to give development a chance.

Olanusi noted that violence and disagreement will not help either of the two parties.

The Chairman, House committee on Information and a member representing Akoko South West Constituency I at the Ondo state House of Assembly, Hon. Gbenga Omole said he is sure the two parties will embrace peace as soon as possible.

Other members of the fact finding committee present at the hearing include, Mr. S. A. Adigun, the Surveyor General of the state and also the secretary of the committee; Hon. Kolawole Babatunde, a member; RT. Hon. Victor Olabimtan a Member; Rtd. Gen. J. O. Olorunfemi a Member; Alhaji Jimoh Dojumo a Member; Mr. Felix Alonge a Member; Mr. Clement Dara a Member.
