The Online Media Professionals (OMP) in Ondo State has called on aspirants vying for the vacant position of Akure North/South federal constituency in the election coming up on February 26, to focus on issue based campaigns.
The charge by the OMP is contained in a statement signed by the Chairman of the Association, Hakeem Adebumiti and Secretary, Tope Adedeji, which cautioned the aspirants from venturing into personal attacks and other form of hooliganism.
It would be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC had earlier announced the date for the vacant seat following the demise of Hon. Adedayo Omolafe who was occupying the seat until his death in August last year.
OMP then called on aspirants irrespective of their party affiliations to be modest in their campaign drives, shun violence or any fowl languages that could incite violence among the people.
The Association however commended INEC for its prompt action and urged the electoral umpire to deploy all necessary materials needed to achieve a credible, unbiased, free and fair election.
OMP also appealed to security agencies not to take chances rather, they should consolidate on their good records of making the state and especially Akure North and South constituency a safe place during the poll.
The Association advised the electorate to come out and vote for their preferred candidate on February 26, without any intimidation.
