It was another moment of sobriety and reminder of death for all role players in the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), when a legal icon, in the Council, was said to have been demised quietly on Sunday, December 13, 2020.

His name was Alhaji Murtala Aminu, OFR, the NSCIA’s erstwhile Legal Adviser. A onetime protem Chairman of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Adamawa State Chapter, Alhaji Murtala Aminu, the former Galadima of Adamawa, brought an experience of decades of legal practice to serve the NSCIA at a time when his service was best needed.

As an alumnus of Zaria Government Secondary School that later became Barewa College as well as that of Nigerian College of Arts, Science and Technology, Zaria, and Ahmadu Bello University, Alhaji Aminu combined the experiences of both the public and the private sectors to boost his legal services home and abroad.

He was a member of the International Bar Association and an Associate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Management even when he was a citizen of Gongola State before Adamawa emerged as a State.

While serving as the National Legal Adviser to NSCIA, he was also the Legal Adviser to Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) and a member of the Abuja National Mosque Management Committee.

A gentleman to the core, with high intellectual disposition, Alhaji Aminu was a major reference point Fulfude speakers in coining Fulfude poems to enrich that local language that requires a boost against extinction.

As a member of the General Purposes Committee (GPC) of NSCIA, Alhaji Murtala’s demise has surely created a vacuum in that Council, which may be difficult to fill.

Meanwhile, on behalf of the entire Nigerian Muslim Community, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), under the leadership of its President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Dr. Muhammad Sa‘ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, hereby condoles with the government of Adamawa State, His Royal Highness, the Lamido of Adamawa and the Muslim Community of that State with fervent prayer to Allah to repose his soul in eternal bliss and grant his family the needed fortitude with which to cope with his exit from this world.

We are all from Allah, and to Allah we shall all return.
